I wanted to ask why my original AVI (XviD encoded) files are being played back all choppy when muxed into a MKV container. OGM plays everything just smoothly.
Here's my setup:
- FFDShow (always latest)
- DivX 5.0.2
- XviD 1.0.1
- VobSub 2.23/VSFilter 2.33
- OGGDS 0.9.9.5
- Matroska Splitter 1.0.2.3
System:
- Windows XP Pro
- Various Media Players
- VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1
I hope I gave enough information. I really would like to find out why this is happening.
Thank you in advance.

have you tried to play the movie with MPC (media player classic)? If not try it

also, dont use VirtualDubMod to mux your MKV's. do it with MKVtoolnix or avimux GUI.

You don't want to use OggDS to play Vorbis audio, if that is what you are using. That decoder has serious issues and will cause all sorts of problems if used with anything else. Use CoreVorbis instead.

Since my primary media player is not MPC I still need use OGGDS.
EDIT: Alright!!! I must really thank you guys for your suggestions. I uninstalled OGGDS, then installed CoreVorbis and then re-installed OGGDS. I muxed my files with MKVToolNix and voila... everything works fine.
Thanks again.

Yeah I assume the pb is OggDS vs CoreVorbis. CoreVorbis creation happened because OggDS wasn't DShow clean enough, especially with timecodes the way it's handled in Matroska.
