Hi ....

I am trying to make up a live music compilation. All the files I am using are .mpgs, but some are PAL and some are NTSC. Will that make any difference when burning them with Nero?

Also, using TMPGenc, almost all of them are ok, apart from a couple that comes up with error message on trying to open the file "could not open or unsupported". I checked using AVIcodec which says "V Codec name = MPEG2 (SVCD/DVD) ..... A1 Codec name = MPEG-1 Audio layer 2 (0xc0)" ....

It's weird because Windows Media Player / DivX Player plays the files no problem .... just hiccups when I want to put it into TMPGenc to encode it ...

Any ideas at all are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Ian

MPEG-2 video is not AVI. Maybe you need to uncheck whatever you checked in TMPGenc. I haven't used TMPGenc in a long time, but you shouldn't need to say anything at all about codecs if you truly have MPEG-2 video. I suspect that you really have AVI (MPEG-4) video.

You can't mix PAL and NTSC in SVCD authoring. Your SVCD must be either one or the other. TMPGenc does not do a very good job of converting PAL to NTSC or vice-versa. I would recommend that you make one SVCD for your PAL videos and another one for your NTSC videos.

Thanks very much .... by trial & error I just made an svcd & the mpg's that tmpgenc wouldn't open just burned straight onto the cd-r & plays perfectly! :) without having to encode them or anything!

Cheers for the advice too ....

Probably because they were in SVCD format already.

SVCD MPEG-2 PAL = 480 x 576
NTSC = 480 x 480

Always check the resolution.
