i notice that the subtitles that you add to a dvd moive come out on top of the movie screen while original subtitles are written at the bottem black zone .
the problem is that the subtitles sometimes not seen very well for example if your subtitles are white and there is a picture of white clouds you want see that sub very well.
is there a way to move them to the bottem ?

no im not talking about letter box .
im talking about that the text will be at the black bottem zone of the movie , in wide screen there is to black zone at the bottem and at the top of the screen and in the original dvd's the subs are at the bottem, and after adding sub's they in the middle of the picture.
you know what , even if there is a way to lower the sub to the bottem of the picture it will be fine casue now they in the middle at its a little iritate

On 16:9 DVDs you have 2 subtitlestreams one for wide and another for letterbox display. If your subtitles moved from bottom to the middle of the picture at wide display mode you only put the stream for letterboxed display onto the DVD.
If you have DVDs with wide or letterdox diplay mode you have to rip both streams.

In my experience (PAL region 4) it's rather uncommon for there to be 2 subtitle streams (widescreen and letterbox), and even if there are, I just keep the widescreen one.
Subpictures are overlayed after resizing of the video, so if subs display at the bottom of the TV in 16:9 mode, they will also display at the bottom of the tv in 4:3 mode.
So the issue is something else, but you haven't posted any details about what methods you are using.

the method :
1. subtitles workshop ---> save sub as srt
2. srt2sup ---> save srt as sup
3. vobedit ---> dumux movie vobs
4. ifoedit --> save celltime
5. ifoedit --> authoring dvd (remuxe)
6. supremap --> changing the sub colour.
thats it.

iirc, if there is only 1 set of subtitles on a widescreen movie, then the disc hasnt been authored properly.

huh? As long as the single stream is flagged as both 4:3 and 16:9, not at all...the subs display fine...including 2 streams really is only a matter of preference.
For example, take a 1.85:1 movie with one set of subtitles. In widescreen mode the TV is filled and the subs are displayed at the bottom of the screen over the movie. In 4:3 letterbox mode those same subs are displayed in the same physical area of the TV, except because of the letterboxing the top half of the subs are in the actual picture and the bottom half are in the black bars. An authorer may like to include a specific letterbox stream where the subs are positioned highered so that they display over the actual movie, but that's just a question of what you like. Personally I prefer the subs to be (partially) in the black bars.
Only practical issue I suppose is if one uses 4:3 letterbox + zoom to eliminate the black bars (not automatic pan and scan...the subs will be fine for that).

@Matthew
If you author letterbox/wide DVDs with only one sub-stream the letters will be stretcht horizontal at one display mode.
So it's right what auenf said... the DVD hasn't been authored properly.

How about I let (guru) mpucoder do the talking.
Subpictures are not resized with the movie video, but mixed after the resizing. So they always fill the screen. This allows subpictures for auto-letterbox to be placed in the black bars, out of the picture (if so desired). It's also needed for auto-P/S to keep the subpictures from panning with the video. However, you can define one stream as the one to use for any/all display modes.
Apart from this, it's rare for region 4 DVDs to have separate 16:9/4:3 subtitle streams. Somehow how I doubt there is ineptitude on that scale ;)

Hi,
Have you tried moving the location of the subtitles in Srt2Sup?
Basically Srt2Sup will put the subtitles anywhere you want even off the screen!
If you have a problem with white subtitles on say clouds why dont you use a black outline to help?
Just some thoughts!

How does the player know which stream to select? and how can I recreate this using DVDMaestro?

This is stored at SPRM2. With Meastro you can set this value by command sequences or stream preselection (could be something else, don't know the exact name) as a button target.
The DVD-VM command is SetSTN, with these command the value of SPRM 1-3 can be changed.

SPRM's are registers were systemparameters are stored. Witch streams are available is stored in your IFO's (like Matthew posted). Witch stream is selected is stored in the SPRM.
SPRM1 = current audiostream
SPRM2 = current subpicstream
SPRM3 = current angle
values of SPRM1:
0 = audiostream 1 (0x80)
1 = audiostream 2 ...
values of SPRM2:
0 = subpicstream 1 (0x20) display = off
1 = subpicstream 2 (0x21) display = off
...
64 = subpicstream 1 (0x20) display = on
65 = subpicstream 2 (0x21) display = on
...
