The thread is closed - hope I won't get flamed for this... But can't find any clear answers to my problem.

I'have an AKAI DV-PX7000 standalone capable of playing DivX. I have done some DivX using GK. But I have found that using the PAR of PAL 16:9 (as the DVD's all are) gives me a stretched (in horisontal direction) picture on the standalone. Now I remember an old article I read about this saying that the pixels on the PAL TV is not square but 59:54. When I used to make SVCD's I found that when taking this into account (by resizing the SVCD in the opposite way to elimate the TV's "rezising") my SVCD's looked perfect on the TV - they obviously did't before I "discovered" this.

Now I have found that when correcting the PAR of 1.422 (PAL 16:9) to 54/59*1.422=1.301 my avis looks perfect when played on the TV.

Does this sounds like complete nonsense?? (Well it actually works for me...)

When it come to standalones that play DivX content they all behave differntly, simply because difference in formware, not because there analog-digital difference in pixels... Some of ealier players did the same as yours - stretched width if non-standard resolutions are used. If you leave original 720x576/480 resolution then they would play it properly.

Thanks!

Is there any overview anywhere where I can see what sizes what player can play correctly? Don't understand it should be so difficult to implement a correct resizing methon regardless of the original size. Dealing with avis pixels are square but on the TV they are not, so just compensate for that.

But leaving the original size is not an obtion, as it takes up to much space and thus more CD's that really isn't nesessary.

not really as it depends on firmware (that is constantly changing), not player itself...
