View Full Version : FileSize becomes smaller when splitting and joining ?

Was just noticing that when I split a avi ,using VdubMod, in x parts and then re-join them again. The filesize becomes smaller.
What kind of information is lost in the splitting/joining process ?
Why does this happen when I split at KeyFrames ?

When viewing the Re-Joined movie there doesn't seem to be any gaps at the join points :confused:

//Thanx in advance

Hi-

It's my guess that the audio preload and interleave values are different between the original, and when you split them yourself. If you stripped out the audio, and split and rejoined just the video, they'll be the same.

If, for example, 500 ms/2 frames was used for the original, and you then used the default 500/1 for the splitting, for a 2 CD rip, you might wind up 2 MB or so smaller.
