I recently picked up a 50-pack of DVD-R media at Fry's Electronics for only $0.29 per disc. Expecting these to be complete rubbish (eg, Princo, or LD-01), I took a gamble. Much to my surprise, the discs ID as SONY brand in DVD-Decrypter. Is it possible that I got some unbranded OEM Sony DVD Media (they are silver / purple)? My question: Are there known instances of faking a Media ID for Sony Brand? I know about the fake TDK discs, but have never heard of Sony being faked.

Perhaps I had the good luck of getting a "deal" after all? Anyone else on this board buy any of these 50-pak media at Fry's?

Yup there are fake evrythings.

Maxwells, Sony, TY.

I would return them if you can, as most fakes are of the lowest possible quality. But then again, you were expecting junk, and thats what you got. So you got what you paid for i guess.

(First disks i bougt was 100 Pack of fake maxwells. Got mabye 30 Sucessfull burns, and all of the had some error at the very end of the disk.)
