View Full Version : Slicing up an XviD movie

It's also got a VBR audio track, which I believe is the source of my angst...

Anyway, I've been ripping & encoding plenty of my anime collection. Sometimes, instead of a number of seperate episode files, they stick them all in one large file.
No fuss... Until I got a XviD able DVD player. The thought of the long wait, fast forwarding through a two hour file to get to a specific episode sounds a tad sucky to my mind.

I've tried a few different apps thus far. X Video Converter, Easy Video Splitter, VirtualDub, Advanced AVI Splitter, Video Splice, and one or two others.

Most output a file of about expected size. All output files have the audio fall out of sync at some stage or another. This is annoying to say the least.

Now, my obscure point is this - Can anyone suggest to me some really good software that will play happy with XviD, slice the bugger quick (X Convert took it's sweet damn time), and not trip over the VBR audio?

Thanks n Thanks in advance

Hi-

You can split .avis with VBR MP3 with VDubMod or NanDub easily enough. If you use VDubMod, hit "No" when it starts complaining about the VBR audio.

Every DVD/MPEG-4 player I'm aware of has a Search feature. You put in the time you want, and it goes there. No fast-forwarding.

Also, you can encode by episodes by splitting them at the DVD2AVI (DGIndex) stage by using the "[" and "]" buttons to create separate .d2v Project Files.

Or you can split them at the decrypting stage by setting up DVD Decrypter to rip the chapters for each episode. You may or may not have trouble with the subtitles by doing it one of those 2 ways, but there are ways around that as well.

I'm glad the wait for the forums to come back up was worth it :)

Thanks for that Manono, you've made me a happy man :)

Now I can split up all these encoded files and make it easier for the player. As nice as the goto function is (Which I've never actually used ever before anywhere :p ), it's tricky remembering the times of varying files, when the pre-intro part is, post-intro, etc etc.

Hooray! *Insert lots of happy emoticons here. Evil little things*
