hi ppl

Here I have a DTS file with 768 kbps which I like to reduce its size just a bit (680 or 560) to make some more space so I can fit my dvd9 into dvd5 without re-encoding ac3 and m2v files (no headache and quality loss in important parts).

so I was planning to do a DTS to WAV (pcm) and then convert it back to DTS by some dts encoder which I found SurCode but it only have two mode of 768 and 1.5 mbps which is not usable any other encoder for:

- DTS to WAV
- WAV to DTS

any help is highly appreciated

PS: I tried besweet to conver to wav but its like a Decoder Filter and very slow and I suppose its lower quality too.

are you shure (680 or 560) are vallid dts bitrates??

if this isnt the case this is impossible.

BTW if you want to get DTS arround 560 i would go for ac3 anyway since this bitrate also comes pretty close to the standard ac3 bitrate(448).
Normally DTS has higher bitrates, and this can give better sound. Dts isnt better just because its dts. Even if u can lower the bitrate i dont think you automatically get better sound compared to ac3 at the same bitrate.

I read somewhere on web that DTS start from 64kbps up to 1.5 mbps which like any stream is adjustable but I am not so assure of that, however I am still researching if that is possible to do.

btw, thanks for your prompt reply

lower bitrates are not part of the DVD-Video standart - also I never heard of other rates than 768/1536kbps - but sounds interesting -> please post a link to the source! Maybe you ment AC3  there it is possible to go lower rates...

exactly, on page 14 it mention that not only other bitrate but VBR also supported but my problem is I can't find any encoder out there that has features and problem is I can't find ANY ENCODER except surcode which I could find the pirate to see how it works (just for testing purpose).

but if there is other that you may know, it will be helpful for me.
