View Full Version : Avissource could not compress

Somehow or other, Ive lost the ability to run xvid thru dvd2svcd (to any mpg). I somehow created this prob as xvids used to work fine.

I have tried several source files from different suppliers, all have the same symptom. I load the avi and hit the preview frame getting a message "Avisource: Could not compress frame 0 (C:\.......,line 2".

using ver 1.2.2.B1. CCE ver 2.5. WinME

When I load the avi into VD, info says vid=xvid mpeg-4 codec, aud=AC-3 ACM Decomprssor. An info utility called YAAI says the audio stream is "8192-AC3 Audio".
When I decompress the audio prior to load into VD, info says vid=xvid mpeg-4 codec, aud=PCM.

With audio of type 'AC3' or 'PCM', dragging the VD slider gives message "Error decompressing video fram xxx. An unknown error occurred (may be corrupt data). (error code -100)". Needless to say, VD will not process the data any more so than dvd2svcd. A manual load to TMPGE yields a blank screen preview.

Numerous codecs installed. Of relevence would seem to be Xvid MPEG-4 video codec and AC-3 ACM Decompressor.

The XVIDS play fine using wither WMP or my default ATI file player.

Follows is a sample log from a convwewsion attempt to SVCD. The whole process blew thru in about 5 minutes resulting in a 60MB mpg of 45 minutes of the correct audio on a blurry "AviSource Could not decompress......" frozen frame.

Appreciate any help.

I post in case anyone might care.
Skipping the boring details, problem solved by simply uninstalling, then reinstalling the latest XVid CODEC. "Uninstalling" was not an optional step and the source of my woes.
