View Full Version : how to tell what's defeating dvd compliance?

I'm trying to get Life of Brian (uk version) to a dvd5. We removed one of the extras and the hungarian audio track to make it fit on a dvd5. however nero complained about dvd compilance (a friend of mine did the rip so far so i cannot give you details about what exacly he did, although i'm at his pc now - we cannot rerip the dvd as it's broken now).

i reget the vts sectors with ifoedit which made nero not complain any further but e.g. clonedvd still refuses to burn with a strange message. dvd2one complains about "ifo not matching vob" (i only did load it into dvd2one for checking) but doesn't tell where or why. to come to the point, the questions i have are:

- how to check dvd compliance in general
- how to find out which vob/ifo is the pbm here
- any ideas what could be the pbm here and how to get rid of it.

I did also process it with VOBblanker (which still shows hungarian language in the main movie (?)) which gave me pretty much the same result as ifoedit reget vts sectors.

Thanks in advance.

to check if the problem is really your dvd - and not some program complaining - try creating an iso using imgtools classic! then mount this iso file with deamon tools and play the dvd in your favourite sw dvd player! if it works, you can directly burn the iso file with nero, or dvddecrypter - and therefore override any error checking in nero or other programs! be aware though that imgtool classic does not do any error checking (except that all the files have to be in a VIDEO_TS folder and there also has to be an AUDIO_TS folder) so do not burn it straight after creating the iso! you can of course also burn the iso to a DVD RW and then play it in your standalone to do some more testing!

the hungarian audio track is still present in the ifo (the entry at least) - don't worry, the actual audio is gone! so you are saving the space you want! if you want to have a truly clean DVD, you can remove the entry with ifoedit! 2COOL has written a bunch of guides about it here in the forum!

unfortunately i can't give you any more specific hints unless you can provide me/us with further details of your backup process along with some logs etc etc!!

thanks for your response. i'll give imgtools classic a try. the reason he doesn't really know what he did is that he started ripping many of his dvds quite a while ago for backup and was then too lazy to finish it - which wasn't really nessesary when the original worked fine, at least from his point of view (stupid user detected :D). anyway i'll torture him to get some more info later. ;)

so there is no tool which can check the dvd for full standard compliance, right? as i'm not trying to produce a dvd that does run with sw players and on some standalones and doesn't do well on others.
