Anyone been using 8x dvd's much for backing up movies? I just got a spindle of 8x Memorex dvd's and I was wondering if they work fairly decently? Also is there a way to make Nero let me burn at 2x because with these dvd's the only option it gives me is 4x

What's the MID code on those discs?
What burner/firmware are you using?
What exact version of Nero are you using?

The code is CMC MAG. AE1
The burner is an LG Electronics GSA-4082b
Nero Ultra Edition 6.3.0.2
EDIT: Also wondering if there are any programs to test PI and PO errors with drives that are not Lite-on

I've used 4x disc burned at 8x, 8x disc burned at 8x, and 8x disc burned at 12x and haven't had any problems with playback. Even on really picky players.

Cool thanks for the info. Now as to my other question. Is there something I can do to allow me to burn at 2x in Nero with these discs. I know its not my burner cause when I have 4x memorex discs i can burn at 2x and I know its not the discs because I can burn to them at 2x with a pioneer dvr 106d at work. So is there any way to change this in Nero as it only gives me 4x as a choice.

The LG firmware must not have a 2X write descriptor for this media.
You really do need to update Nero.
The version you have listed is VERY buggy.
6.3.1.20 is out.
Install it!
