Frame Rate Confusion

I'm confused here.... I'm using GKnot The guide says you want the frame rate to be 23.(whatever), but, whenever the framerate is 23.(whatever), i get troubles, and the film is only like 1/4 of the time it should be, while the audio is fine. Should setting IVTS correction in the final settings fix this? When I do work with 29.978 fps it works fine. Oh, but another question. (sorry bout this, I'm a n00b)It seems like the only time GKnot works correctly is when I give it the 5channel ac3 file and tell it 2 make it into a 128kb/s mp3 file. Any suggestions, I know I should give u my log file, but I deleted it, sorry about that. I think its prolly that I haven't been checking IVTS correction for the 23pfs movies, but the audio thing just perplexes me. Thx!

Can you tell us step by step exactly what you did?

by ¼ do you mean it runs faster or it just encodes a ¼ of it? What version of GK are you using?

What guide are you using? it looks to me like you got confused in places.If you get too many headaches you may want to try autoGK until you're more familiar with the procedure.

You would want to read the deinterlacing and IVTC guide too, to understand what it does :)

ok, heres what i do:
1.use dvd decyrpter 2 rip the dvd
2.open dvd2avi and make the .d2v file
3.open GKnot, add the 3_2ch audio file, put it in there, set the video bitrate to as close to .17 as possible. I go to the preview window and leave everything as the guide says I have 2, and tell it to use the 5% thing, and press save and encode. THen I go to the job process window and make sure the audio is ok, and tell it 2 mux the audio as a 128kb/s avg. bitrate, and tell it to go.

Now heres what happens sometimes:
1.if i dont use the 2_3ch audio file, and use the 0_2 one, the video file comes out to like 35MB and the video plays really fast, thus the 1/4 problem(the video plays 4x faster). However, this might also be due to some IVTC and Telesyncing problems I'm having. The framerate I always keep @ 29, which seems 2 work, and I have gotten 2 movies to work fine, but whenever I have to force the video and it becomes 23fps, it always gets screwed up. I think I have 2 tell it 2 correct IVTS framerate, but screw it, I gave up on that DVD awhile ago, its not a very good movie anyways.

I think I have it figured out now, except for the audio part(why encoding only works when BeSweet comes up and remixes the audio). Thanks for the help, I'm pretty new to backing up my DVDs, but I like(emphasize the like) to think I'm a fast learner.

Do you actually change the framerate manually? you don't have to touch anything, selecting IVTC in the avs box will drop the framerate to 23.97 fps on its own, by removing one duplicate out of 5. If you select force film in dvd2avi, then you don't have to ivtc at all :) a forced film is progressive.

The audio stuff perplexes me too, choosing a different audio track should not affect the video size, since muxing is done at the end and is independent of the rest. It can cause playback trouble though, and you can check in your folder if the mymovie_movie.avi plays correctly(it's the encode, but without the sound)

Maybe a mod can move this to the GK forum, you may get more answers...but a log and the avs script would help considerably to find out what's wrong :)
