Hi everyone!

I'm surprise no one reported it.:( I may be wrong but this must be a bug: when you reduce the image resolution, the bits/(pixel*image) figure increases instead of decreasing.

Hope it helps in anyway

All the best

Hello and welcome to the forum-

Sorry, but the bug is in your brain. :) The number of bits is constant for a given file size. If you reduce the resolution, you're reducing the number of pixels, and therefore the B/(P*F) increases.

I do apologize my brain does suffer from the heat I guess! :)You're perfectly right, I'm sorry I polluted this forum with this stupid post of mine. From now on I shall be more careful before reporting any bug!!! Hope you ever forgive me. So sorry about that.
Keep up the good work anyway!

Hi :(

I have a Bug to report in GordianKnot 0.32Beta--and it is linked to DVD2AVI-generated .D2V files~!

In order for a VOB to be recognized, GK asks for "AVI or .D2V"--since VOB has been ripped (and no conversion yet)the only recourse is to use the ".D2V" file, correct~?

Well, I used both DVD2AVI version 1.773 AND Doom9 suggested 1.76:

http://img42.exs.cx/img42/1577/dvdAVIversion.jpg

and both generate this Error Messages:

http://img12.exs.cx/img12/5838/GKnoterror.jpg

Now, since I am a newbie--and follow all the "steps" in tutorials--Is there a "working" VOB-to-D2V program, that will work with this thing~?

I need help please!~

Thank you

Hi-

The more recent GKnots require the use of DGIndex in place of the old DVD2AVIs, and you should have it already.

Hello Manono :-)

Thanks for the quick reply~!

I will use this "DGIndex" (that comes bundled in GK 0.32) from now on...instead of DVD2AVI~!

One question please: would you know of anymore GK tutorials, beside the one for this forum~?

Reason is, the one for forum is a bit "techie"...instead of straight forward~!(techie is good..but for newbies, it is intimidating~)

All newbies want is: High Quality and small size (700meg or less) videos--without the "adjust this setting for..blah blah" tech talk~

:D I thank you kindly---for assisting me~

chinapoppi, have you tried auto gordian knot? It's much easier than regular gordian knot. :)

Hello obieobieobie :)

I thank you very much, for pointing that out too me~!

I have AutoGordianKnot 1.25 (I downloaded both GK and AGK, but thought they were both the same appy~..hahaha) and will give it a try~

I see that AGK uses Doom9's tutorial (without much images) to guide users (outdated tutorial though)--would you know of any other AGK "updated" tutorials that you could point me to~?

AGK comes with a tutorial written by Manono. Start ... (all) Programs ... AutoGK ... Tutorial.

Guys;

I really appreciate the help, but before you make "encoder" suggestions--wouldn't it be nice to find out "what" rippers were/are being used by the person~?

Reason I say this is:

Not everyone likes a specific "ripper" (i.e. Smart ripper, CladDVD, DVD Decrypter, etc; )--and certain encoders ONLY allow their ripper choice~! (AGK Only works with DVDDecrpter)

I have/am using CladDVD, for my DVD rips---so AGK will not work for me~

http://img55.exs.cx/img55/1250/AGKerror.jpg

May I make a suggestion to the Moderators/Writers of the Doom9 tutorials?

GordianKnot 0.32beta is way too hard to learn for newbies (only option if ripper choices are not DVD Decrypter~!)--If you guys are not willing to take the time and effort to include "multi" imaged tutorials with just the "basic" settings for newbies---I am willing to volunteer my time and Snag-IT, to make noob life much easier~!

(in other words, Email/PM me with the "basic" High quality/low Meg specifications, and I will gladly make the step-by-step Imaged tutorials!)

Do not think that I am only looking out for myself here---what I learn, I am willing to share, to make someone else's DVD/VCD experiences less intimidating~!

Please work with me---because it will benefit all

Thanks again!:D

Oh chinapoppi-

I'm worried about you. On the one hand you say you're just starting out in the wonderful world of DVD ripping/encoding. That's fine. We've all been there. These should be exciting times for you, as you have so much to learn, so many challenges ahead of you, and so many satisfying moments to look forward to as you make your first successful DVD backups. But on the other hand you seem to have a closed mind about some of the processes involved, already being married to CladDVD, with an unwillingness to learn new and better methods. DVD Decryptor wasn't chosen just to make life difficult for you, but because it's far and away the best. The opening section of the AutoGK Tutorial included with that program has a very detailed guide to setting up and running that program, with tons of pictures. It'll take you longer to read that portion than to set up DVD Decrypter. And after that, DVD Decrypter is the easiest thing in the world to run before using AutoGK or GKnot.

Please forgive me for this next statement, but some of your first posts in these forums show that you don't know what the heck you're talking about. That's fine. None of us do when just starting out. But if you'll show a bit more openness and flexibility, I think your learning experience will go a lot more smoothly.

AutoGK is the way to go when starting out. It'll give very good results without a steep learning curve. Then, after you've mastered it, and have gotten a few good rips under your belt, if you find it too confining, then feel free to branch out into learning GKnot, or even (gasp!) doing all of your backups manually step-by-step.

I can tell that you're one of those smart stubborn types that wants to learn everything immediately and know everything completely. Success in backing up your DVDs won't come overnight, but it will come if you stick with it, keep an open mind, and absorb everything that comes your way. The guides won't satisfy you completely, and they shouldn't. With experience you'll develop your own methods of doing things, which may differ considerably from those of the guides. But walk before you run, as they say, and using AutoGK, and following the guides, either Doom9's or the one included with AutoGK, should get you on your way. We're here if and when you have questions, and good luck.

manono;

Do you have a problem with individuality (in as far as "ease of use")--or does being a Moderator mean that you are intitled to demean someone, simply for voicing an opinion?

I have written back and forth, with you--on 2 posts thus far--and in this one, you are quick to unlease a decisive blow to judgement--why?

Yes, I like CladDVD for its ease of use--and yes, I have used DVD Decrypter before (2 weeks ago), and it crashes~!(did you forget that people DO have problems with Decrypter?)--so I did some reading (as in "research"~) and chose Clad.

http://img59.exs.cx/img59/6914/cladFront.jpg

http://img59.exs.cx/img59/2207/cladOptions.jpg

Now, since I am new to this encoding stuff (but not new to computers) I can see the difference between products that "experienced" people use--and the products that newbies "should" use--and you belittle me simply because I made a choice?

Why do you want to keep pushing Doom9's "outdated" tutorials at me, instead of realizing that, the software the tutorials suggest we use have made changes since 2002/03, so even though they have "images", following them is not an option anymore, hence the reason that I wrote:

May I make a suggestion to the Moderators/Writers of the Doom9 tutorials?

GordianKnot 0.32beta is way too hard to learn for newbies (only option if ripper choices are not DVD Decrypter~!)--If you guys are not willing to take the time and effort to include "multi" imaged tutorials with just the "basic" settings for newbies---I am willing to volunteer my time and Snag-IT, to make a newer, up-to-date tutorial and make noob life much easier~!

GordianKnot 0.32 accepts CladDVD-generated VOBs (you pointed that out to me, remember?~)--so I assumed that AGK would work with CladDVD, but instead of telling me it does not--you want to attack me for having made a choice in rippers, and that does not seem fair, nor professional of you~ :scared:

The reason he tells you all this is because the methods we use on this forum have been proven to work time and time again. I don't think what manono said was very nice, but he is a person just like you and is entitled to his opinion.

Now the fact remains that autogk does not take any VOB except those created by DVD Decrypter. Now I see read your DVD Decrypter is crashing, but what is the error you are getting. Hopefully if we can solve that you'll be able to start using AutoGK.

Why do you want to keep pushing Doom9's "outdated" tutorials at me...

So far I've recommended Doom9's AutoGK Guide which dates from May of this year, and the one included with AutoGK, which also dates from May of this year.

GordianKnot 0.32 accepts CladDVD-generated VOBs (you pointed that out to me, remember?~)

I certainly did no such thing. I've never recommended you use GKnot, as when I first came upon your posts you said you were having trouble with it, which I can understand. I've never used CladDVD and I've never recommended it. Maybe you've gotten conflicting advice from several boards, and are getting things and people mixed up.

I assumed that AGK would work with CladDVD, but instead of telling me it does not--you want to attack me for having made a choice in rippers

jggimi and I both pointed you to the AutoGK Guide that comes with the program, which states quite clearly:
Make sure that you're using DVDDecrypter, and ONLY DVDDecrypter. Auto GK sometimes doesn't work with SmartRipper or any of the other ripping software.
And on that note I'll gracefully bow out. Good luck.
