View Full Version : Editing a Movie

Hi guys
I am real new to this, but have found an infallible (so far) method: 1.dvd decryptor into files
2.dvd shrink from files to .iso image
3.dvd decryptor to burn the final backup dvd.

I now want to take the next step - editing. For example, I would love to backup my copy of "The Music Man" leaving out the lame "Shipoopi" song. I have not been able to find any guides for doing this, or indeed any warnings to newbies that this is way too difficult to attempt. Searching for "editing" on this site gives too many results, all of which seem to be technical answers to editing certain types of files. Am I trying to bite off more than I can chew here?

What I'm looking for is to be able to edit a movie like Nero Wave Editor edits sound files. Drag through, delete, save.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

nope... won't be as easy as this! you can cut out parts of your mpeg streams but you'll have to reauthor the dvd afterwards!

Steve
Thanks for responding. I essentially reauthor the disk in dvd shrink when I write the .iso image file, leaving out the things I don't want (to save space and therefore compress less). Is this what you mean about reauthoring?
I really only know the three step process given above. How do I edit mpegs? Help!!!

please read through this guide, to get a better understanding of the dvd structure and other processes necessary!

http://www.doom9.org/dvd-structure.htm

what you'll need for your proejct is a way to edit the content of your vob files, then import them into a dvd authoring program and compile a new dvd!

for dvd authoring tmpeg dvd author and dvd lab come to my mind as some of the easier to understand programs!

please search the forum a little and read a couple of threads - e.g. in the dvd authoring forum - most of this has been done many times before!

cheers

u can decode the audio in 6 mono wav using besweet and demux the video to m2v using vobedit.

Load the video to Premiere (6.5) it accepts mpeg video by default, or u can create a pseudo vfapi avi and frameserve the video to an earlier version of Premiere like v6 or v5.

Cut and paste anything you want and export again the video and the new mono wav files.

Create a new ac3 file from the new wav files and re-author your new dvd.

It isn't that hard, is it? :) Perhaps it is a bit faster and more efficient to skip just this lame part when watching the movie. (I am kidding, I am always fun of new members seeking difficult goal points. If u actually want to pursue this, I will be here the whole way. I am sure we can pull this through together.)
