View Full Version : How remove noise-remove-artifacts

Hi,

i work now on a very noisy source. I tried many denoiser. whit iPP i get good results (this means in general with PixieDust) in the preview.
But when i encode the movie i get still very high bitrates (the same bitrates like when i let the movie noisy).

The problem is that the edges were cleaned but when you play the encoded movie you can notice dot-crawls (maybe this is the false word...) around the edges.
So every frame for itself looks goot but in motion one notice dots which "flying around".

So i want know who had the same experiences? What have you done? Have someone ideas how to deal with such things (scripts are welcome ;).

I think this is not my only problem so maybe we can get a solution for all?

By the way, why we can not discuss similar problems at some Russian forum? Or create it. :)

@oo_void

DeDot is a good filter to remove Dots but it works (i think) only spatial. The Problem i discribed above is when you have it temporal.

These what i mean are not really dots. I made two pics to demonstate the problem:

frame 1:

frame 2:

Look at the door (i marked these). Between the two pics you can see, that the edge is changed. So if you have 100 frames, which has these change frame-by-frame you got a "flying pixels" over time, still when you have a scene, where is no move...
I think the noise-detection-filter cannot detect the noise here, because it is an "edge", where you must have extreme luma-differences (=> very high thresholds)

@Fizick:
I think i does not know the right word for this in russian too ;) I've never searched for a russian-forum. If you know some, tell me...

do those artifacts appear due to YOUR denoising, or are they already there in the source?

Both.... The Denoising by itself does not this effect but if all walls are clean you see this effect better. In origin the hole picture is "bumpy" becouse of noise. When the noise is away only the noise of the edges stay. So the only the edges are "bumpy"...

Ta-daa! Millenium post of scharfis_brain! ;)

krieger2005:

I'm currently breeding over some denoising strategies & methods. One of those "proove-the-idea" scripts is an edge-directed smoother, which perhaps could be useful for your source.
I don't have the script here at my current location. When I'm back home I'll dig it out.

now ;)... But only some short test, without success. I try it even more today...
