Hi,
I am trying to encode a documentary, 99% of which is simple telecined FILM. However, there are some snippets of old black and white film mixed in. Each B&W snippet seems to have been interlaced differently; frame patterns include 5:1:3:1, 4:1:3:1, 6:1, and others.
I have tried both Telecide(guide=1) and Telecide(guide=0), but in most cases Telecide() doesn't seem to realize that the B&W pattern is different from film. This results in bizarre variations on the standard ccc:nn conversion (for example, cccc:nn:c:n:cc), which naturally borks the B&W, increasing its choppiness.
I have tried messing with gthresh=, but if I set it too low, it increases choppiness throughout the entire video. I'm using FDecimate() to kill the extra frames.
I am pretty new to this, so I'd appreciate any pointers, background, and/or advice on how to do this conversion properly. How can I convert the film from 30fps to 24fps while keeping choppiness in the B&W to an absolute minimum?
