View Full Version : Nero 6 Doesn't Save Volume Info w/ Compilation File!!

I've been using Prassi PrimoDVD for all my burning until I replaced my Pioneer A03 with a 107D model that Prassi can't see. Prassi saved every parameter of the job, so when we needed to ship a quantity of a certain short-run title, we'd open the Prassi job file, pop in blank discs and burn away, with the volume label info being maintained.

Now we use Nero 6 Ultra Edition to record DVD images, and even though I set the volume information and SAVED the Nero compilation to disc, every time those files are reopened for subsequent copies of a particular title to burn, the volume label always reverts to "NEW". A couple of DVDs almost got out the door with the incorrect volume labels until someone with a watchful eye noticed the wrong labels and reported it.

Since Nero can save a compilation, and remember the drive folders that are part of that, why the heck does it reset the volume information to "NEW" for a saved job that had a specific volume label? This sounds like a really poor design flaw.

Is it possible that we're all idiots and don't know how to make the volume label 'stick' in a saved compilation? Lots of folks use Nero 6, so I would hope some of you are familiar with the problem and may have a solution.

That is done by standard, Nero will use the last name setting that were used (from the compliation template).

With 6.3.1.17 there is an option to let Nero generate different names, using date, counters etc.

If that is really the case, then we're using the wrong burning software for the job. We need ALL parameters saved with each job.

But wait, Nero DOES save job files, so if it can save the directory and list of files in the compilation, why can't it save the volume label?

Obviously that's unsuitable in a production environment with possibly hundreds of video titles and hundreds of volume labels. We can't be expecting an operator to know what the volume label of a particular DVD title is and remember to type it in every time he/she opens the job.

Why bother saving jobs at all? Nero may as well not even have a save function, since we end up just short of rebuilding the entire project every time we open a folder to burn. The function is rather useless if it can't save the volume label, a la Prassi PrimoDVD.

Frankly, I'm somewhat dumbfounded at such a basic design functionality omission. It feels like software the US Government would have written. :-\

Can anyone recommend a Prassi-like application that DOES save all parameters of a job and works with the A07 writer?
