I recently downloaded the trial for Womble mpg-vcr MPEG editing program. Great program--not yet sure if I'll buy it, as it is expensive.

It has a feature called "MPEG VIDEO GOP FIXER", which seems cool, it searches for errors in the GOP of both MPEG and VOB files, and can fix them.

It also has a good multiplexer and de-multiplexer.

I've found that many VOBs ripped with programs like DVDShrink or DVDDecrypter to my HD, have such errors on them. If I fix the errors with this Womble utility, will they still be compatible?

The demultiplexer can work on VOB files as well. However, in re-multiplexing the streams, it will only save as an .MPG file, not as a VOB file.

The question is--if, after the re-multiplex, if I delete the original VOB, and rename the re-multiplexed .MPG file to .VOB, will that .VOB work in a DVD just like the original?

In other words, are there any differences between an MPEG-2 file with the extension .MPG, and one with the extension .VOB, other than the file extension?

Is there other information in a VOB file, besides the MPEG movie?
