what is the easiest way (next to "hear it") to determine if a 2.0 ac3 file from a dvd (old movie from the 1960's) is really stereo? i think it's just the mono track in a stereo ac3 file, so i'd like check if the two channels really differ somewhere. what application can help me with this?

you take the right channel and subtrack it from the left channel, if that produces any audio it is stereo

of you got a 5.1 system set it to dolby surround/dolby prologic/dolby prologic II/ ...
if the soruce is mono it#ll come from the center leaving the other 4 speakers dead

i found a cheap solution that can visualize the two channels: nero wav editor with ac3 importer plugin.
