Okay, I have tried several deinterlace filters with virtualdub. If you have experience with these filters and or prefer them, please comment.
I am deinterlacing a 6 minute, captured footage of a TV reality show, by connecting my DV camcorder to my cable television. 720x480 - NTSC. Using divx 5.11 pro to encode with 3 passes.
Built-in deinterlacer plugin with Virtualdub
(Blend)No visible horizontal lines during fast movement, but blurrs video a bit. Any reccommendation on solving this? Maybe running using Virtualdub's built-in sharpen filter?
Deinterlace MAP plugin with Virtualdub
(Default settings) Recommended by Doom9's analog capture guide, I find it doesn't deinterlace as well as the regular interlace, but doesn't blur as much too. I am going to try to increase the threshold settings. Any reccomendations on the settings?
Smart Deinterlace plugin with Virtualdub
(Default settings) Increased encoding time, and I noticed that there as more noise in the video, but could just be my eyes tricking me. Does anybody have any expereience with this filter?
Field Bob with Virtualdub
(Even-qtr down, Odd-qtr up) When I used this filter, on the reccomendation of www.100fps.com, there was movement up and down in the video. Did I flip the settings? I thought the field bob filter prevents the movie from bobbing?
Now one filter I haven't used is Smooth Deinterlace by Thalin. I found from reading the forums that you have to split your video into odd or even fields? Since I am not using avisynth, I don't think I can do this.
