View Full Version : Freezes between chapters in DVD-R

I am a newbie in DVD burning, just overcame a lot of software issues with Nero, as it didn't recognize any of the plug-ins I was trying to install and was failing in the verification phase. Now, after successful burn of a DVD-R, I have freezes between chapters when playing in a home DVD player. This means that when one chapter ends, there is a slight 2 sec freeze until the next one starts, which also prevents from rewinding the film past the chapter, as it stops at the biginning of it. The only way to rewind past any chapter is to go to the biginning of a previous one and fast forward to its end. Very weird.
Can sombody please help?

hi and welcome to the forum!
what method did you use to create the dvd? i suspect that the burning process is not necessarily the root of your troubles!

Thank's for your prompt reply. I am using SmartRipper to rip DVD to HDD, DVD2One to fit it all on 1 DVD-R disk, after deselecting what I don't need and leaving audio and subtitles I do need. Afterwards I am burning it with Nero - it has pretty convinient and straight forward GUI.
That's it. By the way, for some reason, even though I did select subtitles in DVD2One, my home DVD player ignores it like I don't have them in the first place. I didn't want to reauthor the DVD as I have an antique PC with pretty low resources (P-II 350MHz).
Please help.
Thank you in advance for your valuable time and efforts.

I am fairly new to this too. I just tried DVDShrink (fantastic) and love it, however I did use it on a concert to buid a new DVD of just the tracks I wanted and it does exactly what Gera says. I had put it down to just a restriction of the software but I could be wrong. Not complaining just interested.
Thanks Alan

So is this a common problem or is it me doing something wrong?
Any help would be greately appreciated.

no, i wouldn't say it's a common problem! at least i haven't encountered it personally! i do not use DVD2One, but I have done more than my share of DVDshrink backups (mainly movie only, but also full disk backups!)
perhaps searching the forum will bring something up!

It's a pity, I was really counting on your help - I couldn't find anywhere the same problem.
Regarding the subtitles - why can't I see any of them on a stand alone DVD player? Why the DVD ripping software can recognize video, audio and subtitles and I can extract any of them, however even though stand alone DVD player sees video and audio - it ignores the subtitles completely (and any foreign audio track as well)? I am looking for a way to bypass reauthoring process, and guess it is not possible, unless you gurus would find a way.
Thanks a lot.

ok, well, let's start with some more troublshooting: pls give me the details of the dvd you are trying to back up, with a fair chance, in case it is region 2 (dunno what you guys down in israel got) i've done it already!
anyway, it would be good if you tried backing up the same dvd with another program - preferable DVDshrink or DVDrebuilder, where the former will be much easier!
if you have the same problems with the other programs we might be able to blame it on the dvd :P
anyway, regarding your sub problems: as you said that your standalone ignores them i take it that they work on your computer when playing the dvd in a sw dvd player?!
@stalan: please provide a couple more details on how you reauthored the disk with dvdshrink to only keep the tracks you want! if you, in some way or another, created several titles, one for each song or section of your dvd it is completely normal that you have small albeit definitely noticeable skips in between them. in order to avoid that you would have to truly reauthor the dvd using an authoring app - i think dvdlab would do the job, but am not definitely sure about that!

Thanks, yes I did it by taking the full title each time for each track and basically editing out the other tracks. A bit repetitious I know but I like to learn by playing around. There is probaly a much easier way to do it. So this is probably why I have got the between track freezes.
Thanks again

stalan, iirc the 'freezes' you are experiencing are completely normal - to avoid them you'd have to get into real authoring! nothing dvdshrink can do for you!
