DV video Created on Mac, Encoded on windows

I have 2 DV videos I created as school projects, with Final Cut Pro, and when I use QTreader in avisynth, or open them directly in quicktime for that madder, the video looks heavly compressed, yet when I watched the exact same copy on the mac it looks sharp, in fact you could see seperate fields when there was motion, now it is all junk.
All i did to them was add the ending .avi as the mac's did not put an extension.

what could cause it to look like that?

quicktime for windows is terrible I sugget grabbing a copy of quicktime alternative.

First of all you cant just add *.avi to a QT file and 'magically tranform it to a avi file'. QT and AVI are just containers that can contain all kind of stuff.
IIRC there is a quality flag in QT files that if enabled reduces quality during decoding to make playback smoother. This is for programs like FCP - so you can edit 'low-res' material and just by flipping a switch output highquality stuff. Its a more efficient way of working with big / high-res stuff.

Since FCP is a native Mac program it is aware of this flag and therefore it looks good on mac and horrible elsewhere.

I often will take video that was created using FCP and import it right into Video Vegas 5 and it's works fine.
