View Full Version : Cropping a DVD and keeping MPEG2?

hi there,

I have an (apparently) widescreen DVD that is actually a 4:3 "widescreen" rather than anamorphic (ugh!)

what I would like to do (just for the hell of it) is to remove those black bars.

I would like to try and do this and keep the format as MPEG2, rather than converting to MPEG1 or MPEG4.

I assume the only way of doing this is to find a ripper that can remove the black bars, or find an application that can remove those black bars after the VOB's have been ripped?

I assume also they would need to be "intelligent" apps that can resize the cropped image so it meets the DVD standards (720x576 in my particular example).

is there any method for doing this? I would be very grateful for any help with this process!

thanks very much.

well just upfront, there's no way to do this withour reencoding, so for other than educational purposes i would not recommend it!

if i had to do it, for one reason or another, i'd use avisynth for cropping/resizing and then CCE for reencoding!

cheers
