monitor window does not show clip playing in timeline, ppro1.5

I decided to move up from some basic editing programs. I have Premiere Pro 1.5 and have been learning to use it until a couple days ago. After I import a short clip into the timeline, I attempt to play it. The clip begins to play and I can hear the audio. Just no picture in the monitor window on the right. I have played this clip several times and have added some effects and know it used to work. I captured another short clip and tried that. Same thing. I can click on the "motion" button, under the Effects Controls tab, and the clip will stop playing and a still shot will appear in the monitor window. As soon as I select play again the picture dissapears.

I have removed and reinstalled the program twice with no results. I may be missing somthing obvious, I just don't know.

Welcome to the forum:

The most likely cause is your video playback for that track is disabled. In the far, upper-left corner of your video track, make sure that the "Toggle Track Output" button has an eye showing in it.

If you run into a function that you just can't seem to make work, you can sometimes get around the problem by re-setting your Preferences files. Open PPro and immediately hold down both the Shift key and the Ctrl key, doing so will re-set your Preferences back to the default settings. Good luck!

I went back after posting my original question, opened my project again and it was working properly! The only thing I had done was to toggle off the "TV safe margins". I didn't think this would really cause a problem like that until I toggled the margins back on while the clip was playing. The program promptly froze and my computer crashed.

I'm running a 2.53 P4 and 1 GB RAM currently. Maybe I'm running out of CPU power. At any rate, that's gonna get solved very shortly. My new computer should arrive in a few days.
