dvcam to beta without firewire

I know some people who are making a tv program by using some dvcam cameras and converting to analog beta but not using firewire (plus doing editing at that stage).

Wouldn't that give performance degradation? At least that's what I think.

I noticed an interference on the broadcast (which I don't see when something else comes on the same station), I wonder if it's related or not..

Are you talking about BetaSP or DigiBeta? BetaSP is an analog format and therefore there is no firewire (bit by bit) dub possible. As for DigiBeta thats an whole different price area and I doubt people dish out the money for cassettes and VCRs when they're still recording on DV* (CAM /CPRO / PRO etc..).

it's probably digibeta via SDI...at the TV station where i work..we use DVCAM and our decks does NOT have firewire...we use SDI...we use the DSR-60(player) and the 80(recorder)

Sure, transferring via analouge connection will lead in quality loss, but I find it hard to believe that you'll be able to see any visible quality loss even if they use composite connection - which I highly doubt. The quality difference you're experiencing is surely something else, errorneus source maybe?

I'm working at a local tv station, we're working with DVCAM equipment but SDI connections and DigiBeta are way out because the station doesn't have the money for such equipment.
However, from what I know about other small regional tv stations, our equiment is not even that bad: most of the other small private stations are still using BetaCam SP (and yes they digitize it for cutting and play it back on analogue BetaCam SP tape).

Of course there's a slight quality degradation, but people don't have HDTV yet and the quality you'll get over analogue cable is not that good anyways, so you really don't notice that much (as long as the BetaCam equipment is not 10 years old or older... which also happens at some tv stations, I don't fantasize here ;) )

I agree - if the cameras and especially the tapes are not too old (and some low budget regional stations seem to be using their tapes over and over again for years...)

No I don't think it's digibeta. And yes it was for you can call a regional station. Thanks for the comments.

I saw a list of the stuff they are using. One of the items is a beta broadcast tape. So this means they are only using one and rerecording it every week? That wouldn't be good I think as you said..
