NTFS is needed for files greater than 4GB.

Win ME does not support NTFS, only FAT 16/32.

You have to upgrade to 2000 or XP if you want NTFS.

@gopher

Whether or not you need to upgrade your file system will depend upon what you're using it for. Fat32 won't allow you to create disk images that are over 4 Gigs, so you can't use the ISO Mode in, say, DVD Decrypter under Fat32 systems. On the other hand, if you're using *some* of the one-clickers like DVD Shrink or DVD2ONE, you can most certainly use these under Fat32, since DVDs are constructed from a collection of one-Gig VOB files. DVD Decrypter can be run in File mode, so it can still be used under Fat32 to decrypt DVDs. Now, if you're using CCE and creating massive video files on your system, then you're better off upgrading to NTFS and getting rid of that 4 Gig file limit.

Before upgrading to XP, I too was using Windows ME. DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter (file mode), Nero Recode, and InstantCopy 7 had no trouble running under Fat32. I only really felt the sting of limitation when trying to work with video files (AVI and MPEG2), since those quickly devour that 4 Gig finishline.

So, again, it really all depends on how you intend to use your system. You may find that you can do everything you'd like to do with Fat32.
