View Full Version : DIF4U : Estimating main movie bitrate before demuxing ?

Hi.
I am using the newest big3 guide to backup my DVDs. My problem is that the average bitrate for the main movie is calculated by DIF4U after the demuxing process. As a result, if I see that the movie bitrate is quite high and want to reduce it in favor of the extras bitrate, I have to restart DIF4U, set another value for the extras bitrate and then, after DIF4U demuxes again, I am shown the new bitrate for the main movie.
So I am wondering, is there anyway to roughly estimate the main movie bitrate BEFORE demuxing, so as to make any necessary changes without having to demux the DVD twice ?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, you could adjust your extras bit rate then run it through cce/scenarist as usual. Then use the built in calc to adjust your main movie bitrate. Its a bit of an inelegant solution, but it does the job. Personally, I don't really worry about the demux stage. Compared to encoding it just takes a minute,

Thanks for your input, but I find it quite inconvenient to do it the way you are suggesting. :( Cause, what if you set the extras btrate higher and then find out that the main movie bitrate is now smaller than what you would like ? That would be a bigger pain since you would have lost time with the extras encoding as well. I was looking for a more easy\convenient way.

you can tell after demux but before encoding if you look in DoCCE4U/BatchCCEWS, then u could change it with reauthorist. I don't know of anyway to tell before demux, but u could get a calculator out and do some estimating ;)

Well, you could just demux everything and after that play around with reauthorist. Change bitrates and select, deselect streams etc. If everything is how you like it you can have ra generate a output file you can use in docce/batchccews. hopefully scenaid will have a similar feature in the near future.

Thanks a lot man. That's what I was looking for. I'll be launching ReAuthorist before encoding and use it as a bitrate calculator.
Thanks. ;)

FYI: After my next final, I plan on adding a full-featured calculator similar to RA but with more.
