I'm using the transfer rate test to test the quality of my burns. It seems like the discs that came with the burner aren't of the best quality (they were a throw in from newegg.com). They're Ritek's, but had some problems toward the end of the disc. I ran a bad one through the transfer test, and sure enough, there were problems. A disc that I burned that ran through ok, looked good.

The weird thing I don't understand is that discs I burned with my older dvd burner, fail the transfer test. Why would this be? They play fine, but does it matter that I'm running the transfer rate test in a burner other than that used to burn the disc?

You really need to specify what burner you're using and firmware version!!!
Some burners are notorious for being terribly readers...

I remember some time ago, I was being faked out by a faulty reader that made all my burns look terrible. I really panicked and though all my backups were bad. But it turned out the reader was just awful and trying them on another reader yielded much better results.

It's the Lite-On 8x drive with DVD+R9 capability, so pretty new. I haven't updated the firmware. I just thought it was strange that all the discs I burned with it went through the test from start to finish, and the older discs I burned with my 1x Panasonic didn't make it.
