Problems with capturing from Camcorder

My system:
P4 3.2GHz
1GB RAM
WinXP Pro
Canon ZR90 DV camcorder
Sony and Panasonic VCR

Both VCR's have composite out only, as does the Canon.

I can capture VHS (even commercial ones) with WINDV; and save it AVI-2.

I can play the captured AVI with media player and sound and picture are intact.

Pinnacle Studio 9 can edit AVI's and create a DVD.

However, nothing else can. VirtualVCR can't preview the capture (even with the tee enabled), and neither can Virtualdub - both complain about not being able to view a non RGB source.

DVD2SVCD (latest 1.2.2) chokes on the audio conversion. On a 2 hour movie (Hamlet) it extracted about 1 minute of audio and quit. CCE 2.5 aborts, if I enable safe frameserver in DVD2SVCD, CCE then hangs.

I've got huffyuv installed (the latest as per doom9.org), have tried to capture as AVI-1, tried the Canopus converter - tried exporting as various AVI or DV types with the Canopus converter all to no avail. I'm beginning to think I've got a basic flaw in my configuration. It's odd that only Pinnacle 9 doesn't complain - but the quality isn't the greatest.

I've read the FAQ's and searched the forums, and all the guides, and I can't get past capturing, and only with WinDV at that. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Moved to DV forum.

I have a ZR80, and found that WinDV would only save Type-1 files properly for me.

I have sinced switched to Ulead VideoStudio for DV capture, which works fine.

Capture OS is WinME.

I have an ADVC100, and I use WinDV for capturing type 2 DV files. I have not had any problems reading these files in studio8 (although I have now given it the flick - it sux), Premiere 6, VirtualDub, etc.

You can play using MP, but can you output the files again using WinDV?

I have also used Scenalyzer & DVIO for capture and playback, but I disliked them both (both worked fine).

I have also captured from a Canon 3xi (or somthing like that model number) using WinDV - again no problems.

I used to use W98 and have moved to W2k. WinDV now gives a quirk on playback, but still records fine.
