Hi.
I am trying to backup Schindler's list and when using NM4U to re-encode the menus, I encouter the following weird phenomenon :
The menu vobs of the disk are the following :
VIDEO_TS.vob 284 MB
VTS_01_0.vob 46 MB
VTS_02_0.vob 10 kb
VTS_03_0.vob 10 kb
I have set the threshold for menus in NM4U to 150 MB, so when DIF4 opens up NM4U, only the VIDSO_TS.vob is processed. The average bitrate for the menus is set to 2000 kbps. At the end of the process however, the re-encoded VIDEO_TS.vob is only 228 KB !?! How can this be ? Is it possible to achieve such a size gain when using NM4U ?
When I open the original VIDEO_TS.vob with PowerDVD, it appears that it has nothing in it (the cursor of PowerDVD scrolls and the screen remains black). When viewing the 228 kb re-encoded VIDEO_TS.vob. all I get is an FBI warning which shows for less than a second and then PowerDVD stops.
Can someone explain if this is normal ? It appears to me that the size gain from 284 MB to 228 KB is huge to be normal, so I'm a bit suspicious.
I've read of course that the use of fake vobs is common in some DVDs, however is it absolutely sure that, by decreasing the size of those vobs to 200 KB with NM4U, I won't run into problems when running the disk on standalones ?
Thanks in advance.
