Hello.
I have been reading the one or other guid on how to convert stereo to surround. I even tried two of them out.
But it took quite some experimenting to get it work to the end:
Most guides stop where you have a 6-channel wav or 6 individual mono wav's. So I wondered: how to go on from there.
It took me a while to figure out that BeSweet 1.4 does not work well with this input, for some reason it requires 7 channels - or so I read.
Switching to the latest beta helped me out to produce 5.1 ac3 that actually played, but the results were obismal:
The surround did not sound natural and the the original stereo sounded much better, I guess mainly because of the known BeSweet/AC3enc bug that delivers very faint audio.
I did not even hear much bass, compared to the stereo original.
In the guide that works with Dolby Pro Logic II the channels are even improperly assigned - at least when using the produces 6-channel wav as it is (after hex-editing it, ofcourse)..
Strangely, when encoding 2-Channel AC3 the sound volume is ok.
Though as mentioned in the FAQ, it indeed seemes to me that the produced stream is not good. I played a dvd I produced of it once on a player of a friend and it was jerky-with no end. On mine it worked however.
So I guess if you want to have good ac3 produced you have to go with encoders other then AC3enc. Trouble is, it seemes it is the only free one. So unless you have much money to spend or do not care about morals you're stuck.
I will try out a bit more to get a good result though.
If anyone cares to share how they managed to convert a stereo wav to 5.1 ac3 with good sound, including bass with no loss in level, it would be appreciated if you posted it here.
