[Sorry for wasting your time yet I hope this thread might help someone.] :)
Hi every1! I was trying to encode some medium-quality DVD (2 h 36 min) and since it wasn't looking very good I decided to make a 1-CD rip. I tried DivX 5.05 Pro (my favorite one), DivX 5.2 and finally XviD with best settings (IMO, I'm a newbie with xvid) and none gave me what I was waiting for. The bitrate may be too low but the bpp/frame value is ok (480 kbps @ 0.18 bpp/f) so it should be working fine but it isn't! So I think the reason is NOISE, and there's a lot of it in this movie, I guess it's some kind of analog noise amplified by the DCT.
Having said that I guess you'll need just one glance at the image to tell me what noise filter I should use ;) IMHO I definitely need both a temporal and a spatial softener but I dont know which and what parameters to use. :confused:

P.S. I'm going to use AutoRV10 now :) and I know that RV10 itself pre-processes video a little bit so the filter shouldn't be too aggressive. I just wanted to use the good old SmartSmootherHQ by Donald Graft but I couldn't find the version 4 AviSynth (maybe I'm not very good at searching :) Again, thanx!
