Hi to all,

I'm new in this world, and I'm having lots of problems with my drive. It's a Philips DVDRW885 DL, and I don't know if it's working ok: I bought a Verbatim DVD+RW 4x certified to do my tests, and my first burn went ok, but the next tries I made finished in a error while verifying the compilation.

I tried the lastest version of Nero, DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, but the result were always the same: the verification crashed everytime. I then tried to burn on a CD-RW and everything went fine, so I thought that maybe that was due to a bad media, so I exchanged my Verbatim DVD+RW for a new one.

The first burn was also ok, but when I erased it and tried to burn a new compilation, I had the same problem again, the verification crashes. Sometimes due to files been inaccessible, and sometimes due to the drive that cannot be mount.

I've seen that the first time I use the media, before start burning it, Nero does a format, but the next times I try to write on it, this format isn't made. I haven't found a way to format the media, only erase it.

Could anyboby please help this newbie telling me what I'm doing bad, and tell me how could I format my media again?

Lots of thanks,
Chompy

Ok, now I know when Nero format the media, only when you change the compilation (from DVD-Video to DVD-UDF for example), but that hasn't changed my problems, despite the format, my Verbatim DVD+RW still doesn't work...

Today I'll buy a new media, any recomendation? and I'll try new tests...

Maybe your drive is flawed. Verbatim DVD+RW media is of good quality, and usually Philips DVD writers are not bad either.

"I'm new in this world..." What?

The drive is too new and so it is firmware.
You'll have to wait til Philips will release newer and better firmwares for your drive.

As I said, I've bought a new media, a Maxell DVD+RW x4 (made by Philips), and with it all the tests I've made (more than ten) have been made without any single error.

I've never had problems with Verbatim CD-R, but it seem that they had some problem with the stock from wich my DVD+RW x4 came from, because in CDFreaks tested a Philips DVDRW885 with Verbatim DVD+RW x4 and they didn't have any problem, because, can a drive (with individual problems) work perfectly with a brand of media, and fail everytime with another?

Thanks,

Hi, I've made some more tests, and here are my results:

I've bought another DVD+RW, a TDK x4 and with this media everything has worked perfectly, so I lent my Verbatim to a friend of mine, and he burned it without a single problem. When he returned it to me, I could read it's contents prefectly with my Philips, but as soon as I rewrited it, my problems went back.

So the problems between my Philips and my Verbatim, are only when I try to rewrite on this media... Any idea?

Thanks,

It's normal for a new drive model to have problems with some types of media. Best bet is to wait for firmware upgrades (that ALWAYS include improvements for writability).
