DVD -> Divx on HD

thanks to this board for helping me choose DVD Shrink long ago. Been backing up my dvd's and came to the conclusion that I need a disc changer of sorts.

I want to backup my dvd's to my HD in preperation for the day when I can buy a KISS DP-600 player to network my vid's. (Or whoever else has a better product at that time)

I'd like to go from DVD to Divx or XviD or ?? (is there something else?)

All the guides I have found end up with a CD as the final product.

Any help on a way to go from dvd to divx or XviD on a hard drive?

Hi-

I think what you want is Auto Gordian Knot (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64266). Since you don't care much about the final file size, then a fast one-pass in quality mode should be just the thing for you.

Since there are over 2500 posts in that thread, I don't think I'd recommend you try and read them. Just get the software and read the guides. There's one included with it, and a shorter one that Doom9 has written:

Quality Mode at the default 75% with the AC3 audio should look and sound pretty good.
