View Full Version : Deinterlacing and IVTCing (again...)

Well, I know this problem is probably too trivial when making anime DVD backups, so I believe the solution might be quite simple, but I am still too newbie :( when the subject comes to deinterlacing and IVTCing anime :(

I don't know if I am too unfortunate to always take bad IVTCed sources or if there's something I am missing...

The problem I am experiencing happens most of the time when I am trying to IVTC anime scenes where some object (normally a house) is moving horizontally (from left to the right or vice-versa).

Here I posted some screenshots showing a sequence of 4 frames where I can experience this problem when I am trying to IVTC these frames.

http://encodingproblems.gq.nu/index.htm

As you can see, the second frame in the sequence is composed by fields from the first and third frames, and the third frame contains fields from the second and the fourth.

As in result, I don't know what I can do to make it match the fields correctly (?)

I also tried to use YATTA, hitting the switch to try to alternate between previous and next matches, but since it's composed like this, it will have no effect at all in this case... and also, postprocessing doesn't help.

What can I do to get rid of this deinterlace, please?

Looks like you've got your field order in you IVTC utitlity wrong.

Hmmm... the field order is not the problem :( I already checked that :(
It seems that this problem is not restricted to horizontal and vertical movements only...
some high movement areas suffer from it too. :(

Actually, this seems to be the type of problem I've also tackled in my BlendBob plugin (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=80289).

Perhaps you could give it a try? Or could you give me a short excerpt from your video that exhibits this problem?

Whoops - yeah, I even read that thread earlier today, but somehow it didn't stick... :(

Anyway, he already removed the vob excerpt he posted in that thread - could you perhaps make it available to me somehow? I'd of course like to try my own solution on it... :)
