View Full Version : [suggestion] RealVideo Section

Since the "New A/V Formats - Codecs" got a lot ov posts regarding RV and it seems like a group of people frequently use and discuss about RV it might be worth a thought if it wouldn't be a good idea to open a separate RealVideo/Audio section.

I have nothing against that idea :D

Well, it's always happening that codec x or y is more interesting from time to time than others - and after a while, another codec will take the lead there.
I don't see that RV has so many topics that it'd need an own section, it's in good hands at new a/v formats.
Of course the people who prefer and use RV would love to see a section of their own, I can understand that. But ffdshow friends would like that for ffdshow too, and WMV freaks for WMV too.
I hope I could transfer my point.

I'd like to know what other moderators think about it. I have nothing against you koepi, but I think your "point" is biased by your attachement to xvid.

yeah would be nice to see some feadback from other mods&users,..
Cu Selur
Ps.: btw. I don't use RV myself, but I think the RV-Group isn't samller than e.g. the "NLE - Non Linear Editing" Group,...

I think if the stats were able to speak for themselves, I reckon there are more questions asked about RealMedia than there are about DivX...
So personally I think it is time for Real to have it's own section within 'Mpeg4 and Co.' - and this is coming from an Mpeg4 fan!
Here's an idea! How about joining Gordian Knot and Gordian Knot Development to make way for it ;) ?
Cheers
EDIT: I forgot to mention. Who's for karl and Sirber to be mods?

I agree with Selur & SeeMoreDigital : Gordian Knot isn't anymore under heavy development, and is only one application, whereas RV10 brings with him a lot of user made interfaces.
Moreover, right now, half the new threads started on the new A/V format forum are related to RV10.
Furthermore, it would allow those who don't care about RV10 ( that crappy codec ;) ) to have more clarity on that forum.
And to convince Koepi : you wouldn't have to read post about RV10 anymore !
But ffdshow friends would like that for ffdshow tooThey have got one (too) long thread, it's enough for them ;) ( imho that thread it becoming unreadable )
and WMV freaks for WMV too. They wouldn't deserve it :p

I've noticed that some moderators names have disappeared from the list of Doom9's Forum Moderators (http://forum.doom9.org/showgroups.php?s=)... maybe there will be some other forum changes too

I'd rather see an Anime section than a RV section myself (but a RV section would be welcome, since it's pretty much all I look at in new codecs). Most RV questions are related to anime as well, and the encoding techniques, questions and members are quite particular.
I suppose gknot forums could be merged, since 3/4 of the threads in development are not for development anyway.( But then I'd like to see GK and AGK separated ;) )
Maybe a poll , last choice being It's fine as it is :) ?

Anime is out of the question for the same reasons as it always ways (it was brought up before). It makes no sense to create forums that would be a crossover of 10 different already existing forums. Next thing you know, you have DVD authoring, SVCD, DivX, etc. posts in that forum except for where they belong.
I'm not sure about the real section but I'll think about it.
And as for the NLE forum.. the reason for its continued existence is my hope that it'll still take off one day.. we just haven't found the proper person driving that forum yet (every new forum, especially if the subject is somewhat special w.r.t. the overall topic of the forum, needs some serious man and brainpower behind it for it to really take off).

alright, it has been done. Turns out there's quite a number of realvideo threads out there.. I was quite surprised to find that many. And I'm totally spent now, that was some hard work going over more than 900 threads in the new a/v formats - codecs section.
Doom9
14th August 2004, 12:36
one more thing: I was just looking at the stats, and even though the number of threads and posts of the rv forum look rather impressive, they are in the lower 50% if not 33%. And since the GKnot forums came up.. they're both in the upper 50%, both if new posts and threads are concerned (that's over the last 3 months). So there isn't as much Real activity as it seems.. in terms of threads, the RV forum is very low and could already need a boost.

Let us some days :) Having a RV forum separate from "other codecs" will bring more visitors.
May I suggest to be modo for that new forum?
Sirber
14th August 2004, 16:44
also, can you (or a modo) prease move the RealVideo forum just bellow the XviD one? Also, please upate the new a/v forum and remove RV in it's description.
Koepi

The only person who'd come to mind for the realvideo section for me would be karl, as long as he would blind in into the mod team/rules - again, IMO.
I think your tone is way too demanding in all means.

sirber,
re-read the rules, especially rule 12 (don't post like this-paragraph.)
As a moderator (what's a modo? sounds like a Quasimodo, a tragic, disabled person/role from an old play) you should know and live the rules (to some extend at least). Patience is important too.
Dunno why I had the urge to post this, but well, I had.

12) How NOT to post on this forum:
5 minutes after your initial post you reply to your own post writing something like "Why is nobody helping me? I'm sure you know the answer". Once somebody replies to your thread but doesn't give you exactly the answer you've been expecting you insult them.Wasn't 5 minutes, was 4 days. I think it's something that need to be done ASAP.Originally posted by Koepi

Koepi I know you don't like me since I started not using XviD. You don't have to use all occasions to try to block me in my goals and projects. Grow up a little, it's anoying.
Koepi
19th August 2004, 16:18
You misjudge me, sirber.
I don't dislike you. I just look twice and think about the reasons if someone stresses an idea and offers himself as "leader" in the same take-of-breath (never translate an idiom from your mothertongue word by word ;) ).
Usually that's a good thing, but the speed in it makes me think a little. So i try to tell you that.
Oh, and your immature insult (that growing-up-thingy) isn't correct either. I nowhere attacked you somehow like that.

First my english is not so good ........
Koepi is not the only modo here (e.g. other one could say : yes sirber be a modo) ......
Sirber is a lot on the real forum, he helps and is fair too (promote every gui and do not insult noobs like kopei :p)
So please promote him !! Karl can not moderate the entire forum, and the other modo.....well.....hiro2k does not appear so often .....
Put your little xvid <-> real war appart Koepi, that would be the best for users

EDIT:
did got a forum warning violation rules three. Do not know why ? But certainly know from where it came wouahahahahahahaha ..... It's not out of focus : this thread belongs to Site suggestions ..... And all my post do contain suggestions .....
I shall always be RV10 Dictator
Is it out of focus ?.... i think someone here is too much sensitive.
But :
koepi wrote : I don't dislike you.....
is really out of focus, he could post it with pm, couldn't he. Did he got a warning message ?
The end .... hoping sirber will be a good moderator (he gives certainly good advises)

What's it with that word modo? Mordor? Frodo? There is no modo.. call it by the proper name, it's a mod or it's a moderator but there's noething else.
And I'm afraid to say that being around isn't all it takes and stuff certain things Sirber likes to say are not really proper for a moderator on my board either.

you're the chief here .......
Anyway Sirber did help me a lot and a lot of other people who wanted to test the real codec. It appears (to me) that he already does a mod job.
But I don't know what is "proper" for a moderator here. Maybe he did insult open source projects :D , but who did not......
lol
You'll be a mod in my hearth Sirber (an I'm sure to all the people you did help).

I'm getting a little uncomfortable here.. I don't feel like digging up dirt and throw it around in public.. but if you want an example just look at page 2 of this thread. that discussion between you and your "followers" is taking things way too relaxed.. being a moderator is a serious job (and it most definitely isn't fun).
Sirber
9th November 2004, 13:11
I know what "being a moderator" means. I don't want to be one to "have fun", but to do cleaning in RealVideo forum. Karl is busy with his work and Hiro2k don't come often.
About the "dirt", I have nothing to be shamed of. I'm not talking about the others, just my own replyes. I'm not responsible for other replyes.

I though that i would stop posting here nut :
you and your "followers" is taking things way too relaxed
Are karl, shinobu, or razorblade "taking things" too relaxed ? Me ? I certainly do in that post. Sirber is not responsible for what I said. Moderate is not fun ? Karl do sometimes somthg fun (well ok not so often :) ).
Do you had teacher who were always serious ? In a certain manner, karl is teaching here, so do sirber...... and people need to relax sometimes...........
But I talk "in the wind" like we said in french..... You know that Sirber does a mod job and that Karl is too busy (he does a very good mod either). Sirber will leave if nobody shows him gratitude.......
But perhaps you want that.......

Guys, could you stop this. It's Doom9 his board/forum. He is not forced to make someone a moderator, because some people want to. He alone decides who will be, or won't be a mod. It's as simple as that. If you want to see someone being a mod, you should send Doom9 a private message, but don't start an argument here.

9th November 2004, 18:18
To be frank, the moderator job in the RealVideo forum is not terribly time consuming. As far as I know, I have kept well track of the threads, and there are very few forum rule violations. The less a moderator has to step in and make any changes, the better.
I think the situation does not urgently need any changes. Like Wilbert says, this is Doom9's board and he decides. Sirber is however very well recognized as an authority on everything RealVideo related, contributor in the forum, and encoding GUI developer. He has also made good suggestions for needed cleaning (thread splits, stickies etc), that I have responded to, and I think he would do a good job as a moderator.
