Can anyone help me with this? I have an AVI with audio that is muffled. It's not that obvious when I play it on the computer but when I create a DVD for it and play it on my DVD player, it's very obvious that it's muffled. You can still hear them but it's like they're talking in another room. The source was like this in the first place so it's not a codec problem. I was just wondering if I can improve the audio a bit. Here are the audio specs:

Name: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
Bitrate: 136 kb/s (68/ch, stereo) VBR
Fs: 48000 Hz

Somebody suggested Sound Forge. It sounds great but it's just too expensive. :scared: I found a free tool called Audacity that might work with its many filters. But I don't know which filters are for muffled sound. The audio doesn't have hissing at all. Normalizing and Amplifying didn't work because it just increased the volume. I have no idea what many of the others are such as "Low Pass" and "High Pass". Equalization might work but I have no idea what those predefined elements are.

Also, would it be a bad idea to add a BassBoost for some of the explosions? That would be a great addon.

Well would someone bother to answer this question? In Audacity, there is a Normalize effect. When you click on it, there are 2 options to check:

Remove any DC offset (center 0 vertically)
Normalize maximum amplitude to -3 dB

Why is everything so complex? Should I check both of them or one of them? When I check the bottom one and preview it, there is a loud hissing noise throughout that wasn't there before. So should I be using the above one only?

Edit:
Also, how do you go about splitting a dual audio stream into 2 separate stereo streams? I used the Left and Right channel slider in Audacity but only to find that sound only comes out from that channel. :( In Audacity, once you open a WAV file, it will have two rows of soundwaves, one on top and one on bottom. I only get one and the other row is blank. How do I get both of the same soundwaves on it to make it stereo? :(
