View Full Version : DivX 5.2 ProTrial, strange situation due to BIOS reset

Hi Folks,

Yesterday I installed the DivX Pro Trial & thought that 6 month where mentioned as the period for it.... Today I started my PC again and as it happens from time to time with my "K7S5A Elitegroup Mobo" it lost its BIOS settings (some well known Bug for some boards of that series) and as ussualy in those times had forgotten to set the clock again (Its the one thing I always forget until I notice the date in some email header again) - now as I had setup another encode the codec told me to either accept the start of its 15 days trial period or just use plain DivX. After changing the date it behaved as yesterday (no mentioning of 15 days or time left for the trial) - but now I am puzzled wether the time for the trial is just 15 days (wich is strange, as my current BIOS default time is from January 2004 and if he had taken that time as a starter for its mentioned 15d compared to actual date... sigh) or the mentioned 6 month...

Ok, I guess its no real problem as everything seem to be fine again - but I am somewhat confused about that behaviour, maybe someone can clear the 15days/6month thing up for me ;)

Thanks,
SHAnDRA

If you restored your clock back to the correct time, you should be back in the 6 month trial period - get a new battery for that mobo :)

Thanks for the Info, now I can be sure that its 6month (and not..) ;)

P.S.: The battery I had replace when I first encountered the problem (but maybe its time again to check its voltage to see if ~1year in that mobo drained her out), later I learned that its a rather annoying failure for that MoBo series & various ways that solved it for some Users (one solution (http://www.geocities.com/mrathlon2000/chipset.html) was to insert a resistor in front of the battery (wich hasn't solved it in all cases, so I spared me that), others include modified BIOS with personal settings as defaults, etc. - its a topic itself & as it has nothing to do with this Forum I skip the details of my personal stories and experiences with it ;)
