Hi,
I am currently using windows 2000, however after a serious error i have decided to finally reinstall windows (been putting it off for ages).
Now my question is what version of windows should i go for 2000, XP or server 2003.

I have currently used 2000 for several years and I like it a lot.

I tried XP when it first come out and although I liked XP it became unacceptably slow and unstable within a week. However there has been a Service pack and many updates which may have improved XP to the point where it is better than 2000.

The final option i have is server 2003. Although it is not made for workstations it can be set up as a workstation and appears to be quite good, but i am not sure about compatibility as there is not a huge selection of drivers.

So If anyone with experience with these OS's has any suggestions it would help me a lot.

Thanks

WinNT, Win2000 Pro, Win2000 Advanced Server, WinXP, Win Server 2003 are all just versions of the same OS (WinNT) I'm sure you know this though. Your choice would realy depend on what options you want. I preffer WinXP or Win Server 2003 over Win2000 Pro or Win2000 Advanced Server for one small reason.... Remote Desktop. I haven't actualy played with win terminal services other then remote desktop so I can't realy say that remote desktop is better. (I think it's the best remote control app I've seen though.) I was let down by Win Server 2003 cause I didn't get very many additional options then WinXP Pro already provided. Basicly with Win Server 2003 you get IIS 6.0 (vs IIS 5.0), the option to be a domain server, NAT routing (vs ICS), a less visualy pleasing desktop, remote windows installation server, support for up to 8 CPUs, server clustering, ooh and the media server ability.

As an end to my rambles - I say, "Go with WinXP Pro unless you have need for the options above."

Thanks for replying TotalChaos.
I ended up going with server 2003 and am pleased with it. However I am not installing everything just incase, already had problems running LCDHype. As then I will go to WinXP. I have decided that win2000 is missing far too many of the great additions to the newer OS's so will not use it ever again.
Also I especially like the Cleartype option and the XP themes in 2003.

Thanks
