Click here to see what I'm talking about (http://www.calgaryforsale.net/vcdvd.mpg)

so I tried authoring a bunch of chinese series VCD's on DVD.
I did the standard; de-multiplex, convert audio frequency, used TmpgencDVD Author to compile the cd.

That's what shows up on my Dvd-player Panasonic DVD-f65;

The dvd works perfectly on my computer and two other different cheaper DVD players.. What could be wrong? I know my Panasonic DVD player supports DVD-R media because I've used them before when I burnt DVD straight images.

:confused:
Please help.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Looks like PAL/NTSC issue. Obviously, the original was PAL, and you are in NTSC zone.

The problem apparently lies in you player's settings/capabilities. While most of the cheap players are multisystem with built-in PAL/NTSC converter, many brand name models in North America are purposely locked to NTSC only. The TV is obviously losing horizontal sync but the picture is in color. This means that the player probably outputs the video with the original framerate of 25fps using NTSC, the only one color system it's capable of. Usually, expensive players like Sony would simply display wrong region warning in such cases.

Converting PAL video to NTSC before authoring is a difficult task widely covered in the forums. However, first check videohelp.com for a hack for your player (hidden menu or firmware upgrade). If it's not available, you can find it more practical to buy a new cheap player rather than trying to fix your Panasonic or convert the video.

For example, you already know that you have to convert audio sampling rate from 44.1kHz to 48kHz. If you put 44.1kHz audio on DVD you might lose audio sync despite that it works fine on VCD. Apparently, your have a similar issue with the video framerate. I don't think there is much you can do about it since the disc works in other players.

To confirm that it's not an authoring issue, create a simplest PAL DVD in IfoEdit for example. Use a minute of your VCD footage or better yet encode a few seconds of PAL video and author it without audio or anything else just to see how the picture would look.
