Xvid 1.0.1 playback on Home Divx player : some shuttering, not really smooth

Hi,

I've made a xvid 1.0.1 file with vdubmod, with mp3 cbr 128k, and I've got at only one moment , a shuttering into a scene with water all the screen; and I have 4,5 times in the movie, some speed acceleration of framerate while 0,5 seconds...

I mux all this with the lastest version of Avimux, with "Profile - Standalone AVI - MP3.amg" (no OpenDML, no Reclist, Audio Interleave with 3 Frames, and preload with 200ms)

If someone could help me to have the best way to play well my movie on my Home Divx Player (Keyplug DVD 4810) ?

That sounds like too much bitrate in those scenes with problems.

Either you want to tweak a little bit in xvid (with the high/low bitrate %) or wait for a 1.1alpha build which may have VBV buffer compliance (that's the usual name for that) and "shape off" some bits were needed.

And you should make sure that you disable Packed Bitstream if you use bframes>1, that can also make problems with your player.

Do you play your files from CD ?
Then its most likely a too high bitrate as Koepi alredy said.

@Koepi : ya , it's must be for the scene with water, too high bitrate, so , I must tweak the configuration of "2 pass", Curve Compression, and set the high bitrate scenes degration to 5-10% , something else ? (it is at 0/0 for high/low)

@Zhnujm : I didn't said it , but my settings was :

ASL5, H263, two pass (default 2 pass tab), weight 0.40 for credits, MSP 6, VHQ1, Chroma motion, Quant (I,P,B : 2/16,2/16,2/16)

I play this on a CDR, on my DVD/divx home player.

Ps : quant don't go higher than 7 , certainly for credits frame.




Otherelse, my settings for the mux are quite correct ???

And second, how I can be sure I will have some scene with very high bitrate ??? is there any tool to see high bitrate charts or something else on a avi file?

DivXDRFAnalyzer can show a bitrate curve of your files, maybe that helps:

I think the muxing settings should be ok.
Can you post the B-VOP settings ? Its very important that "Packed Bistream" is disabled, otherwise you will also notice stuttering in scenes were more than 1 bframe is used. This setting is on by default.

I didn't use at all b-frames, so..

I'm making some test with Iframe boost at 0 than 10 (default) and High scene degradation at 20,50,70% , I will play all this in next 5 minutes on my Home DVD/Divx player in order to see if there are some improvements..

I've seen some avi files on TV, encoded with Iframe boost at 0, high scene degradation at 20,50,70% and It worked perfectly.
But it is normal, I looked at DRFAnalyser, and I see the bigger Iframe in theses files (around 2Mb) take 28Kbytes, than in the whole encoded file (around 700Mb), this scene owns Iframe with 75Kbytes (which shuttering the home Divx player)

I think I will use the settings above in other encoding, perhaps its helps to have good smooth, in addition of analysing first pass with DRFAnalyser.

How analyse first pass without doing Quant 2 first pass only , but taking first pass file before the second pass ? because DRFAnalyser take only AVI input and not the video.pass file.. So, I don't want to make for all movie, an first encoding with Quant 2 , which take big place, and more time because I'll do after a Two pass file...


Is it a good solution to apply some lower Quant/Weight in zone options on differents sequences on the whole movie, which have some high bitrate/motion ???

OK, that should be a safe setting :)
So its for sure the too high bitrate.
Unfortunately i dont know about the other things, i think its just a shame that so many players are limited in bitrate only because of a too slow cd reading speed, the mediatek chip (i think your player is also based on this) can handle so much more....

its possible that the codec is using quant 1 in some frames and is either causing spikes in bitrate that is simply to much for your hardware to decode or it may just not like quant 1 therefore i sugest you try setting the minimum quant to 2.

Hi,
In all my encoding, I put 2/16 for I/P/B frames in codec setting , so the fact is simply, the hardware decoder of my home divd player is not able to decode a IFrame that is around 75Kbytes (all pixels are moving in this case in the entire frame , representing water)

I tried both and I can assure you that MT1389EE can cope much better with high bitrates and sudden bitrate spikes, my DE one was complaining from time to time with high bitrates, the same movies on EE played flawlessly.

I used DRF analyzer and the highest bitrate was 5300. I'm looking for one with higher kbps to test...
