Low contrast with CCE

I encoded Apollo 13 with 4 pass CCE and normal settings.

Compared to the output of transcoders like Instant Copy, DVDRB seems pale, in a literal way. The contrast is significantly lower. Also, I wasn't able to notice any gain in quality, compared to transcoders.

Anyone got a idea of what can cause this?

You probably won't notice a gain in quality over IC8 unless it is a quite high compression (30%+).

About the low contrast thing I've no idea :confused:

I would have to disagree with that... I would contend that you get a better picture at any ratio. It just may not be as obvious on lower encoding requirements. That can be easily substantiated with two sources done at the same bitrate (same resulting size) -- and then compare the outputs with Bitrate Viewer (looking at the Q values for I, P, and B frames).
