Hi,
I ripped some CDs using dBPowerAmp and QuickTime 6.5.1. Files were working perfectly so I decided to go ahead and tag them using tag&Rename 3.1 but this utility just screwed up my files and now when it tries to read them it says 'stream read error' and opening the files causes iTunes to crash. The files play perfectly in QuickTime though. Any suggestions on how to correct this problem? Please someone help
Thanks

I'm not expert, but I would guess it has something to do with the iTunes DRM. DRM = Gay.
Do they play in winamp/windows media player/media player classic?

very strange that they should play in quicktime and not itunes...you might want to get VLC and try streaming the output to a file, this process can be used to strip (http://wiki.videolan.org/tiki-print_article.php?articleId=4) the DRM from legally purshased itunes songs(the guide is a lot simpler than it seems, it's meant for mac users with virtual PC). There is also hymn (http://www.hymn-project.org) which claims to do the same thing.
I know you ripped these tracks and they shouldn't need to go through these programs, but i'm thinking maybe one of these programs will be able to strip away any non-essential information in the header or elsewhere in the file that is making them unplayable in itunes.

I am not sure about Tag&Rename, but why don't you just tag your files within iTunes?
However, I guess that this program has put an incompatible type of tag into your files (like ID3v2). I'd recommend to get foobar2000 (http://www.foobar2000.org) to tag your files. It should be able to strip broken tags as well.

One of your programs must have done something really weird to your files. Can you remove the tags in Tag&Rename?

first of all you should ask yourself:
are you sure that Tag&Rename can tag .m4a/.mp4 files correctly? ;)
