Hi All.

Avid fan of DVD2SVCD/DVD :) It's a fantastic sollution for my DVD backups.

I have just one query regarding permanent subtitles. Now I have two images for comparioson.

The First: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/craigweb2k/pm.jpg

The Second: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/craigweb2k/tl.jpg

The first image is from a quick encode I did of The Phantom Menace with 'Permanent Subtitles' switched on, and no other subtitle settings altered. As you can see the subtitles look horrible (as do bitmap based subs, but theses are hard coded!).

The second image is from my True Lies DVD, which I haven't touched. As you can see the subtitles are much nicer (easier on the eye) and this is the way I wanted the Phantom Menace DVD PermSubs to look.

Now my question is, is there a way to alter the settings in DVD2SVCD to give a 'Permanent Subtitle' result similar to that of the True Lies DVD?

Thanks.

There are 2 options.

1. Using dvd maestro
2. Using ifo edit

Method 1.
If subtitles are on DVD already u should rip it via subrip to srt.

step 2. Download Subtitle workshop 2.51. load srt file u got from subrip and convert it to Spruce Subtitle file.

step 3. Demux m2v and ac3 from ripped DVD using vobedit.

step4. Import those files in dvd maestro
step5. Using chapterxtractor save chapters from ripped DVD to DVDMaestro format.
step6. Import chapter file in dvd maestro aswell.
step6. Import subtitle file stl file from workshop into dvd maestro.
step7. Compile DVD

step8. Load New authored dvd in dvd2dvd, with permanent ticked subs and ull get ur subs look the way you want.

Note: Im using that method because im not satisfied when using external subtitles directly in dvd2dvd because subtitles arent sharp when on light scene.

So im using similar method for subtitles that i described above to suit my needs.

Hope this helps.

Alternatively u can use ifoedit but then u need programs for the following conversions : Workshop- from srt-ssa. SBtmaestro: for ssa-son. Son2vobsub: son-vobsub format and Subtosup: from vobsub to sup (ifoedit format)

There are other software for
: srt2sup directly: But subtitle conversion quality is not good at all. I highly would not recommend this software. Subtitles arent sharp and look not so good.

Good luck!

P.S. In subtitle preview (after hitting go) theres subtitle palette, u click on it and try to change imput/output to ur desirable. If that dosent work u should use the procedure i mentioned above.
