View Full Version : How can I create own Chapter points?

Hi,

I've been looking for a solution for a while, but since I haven't found a clear answer, here's my own question:

I create DVDs with 3-5 promotion clips (from VHS) for our company.
For authoring I use Sonic MyDVD. Because I have to :) I know that DVDLab would solve all my problems, but there's simply no way to get it. :(
So, MyDVD produces DVDs, where all the movies have only one chapter. I want to add my own chapters, because some of the movie clips are a little longer and to get to a certain position I'd like to skip some parts rather than use FFWD.
Second, when one clip has finished, the next one starts immediately. I want it to go back to Main Menu instead.
How can I do this?
I've read about celltimes and re-authoring with IfoEdit for the first problem, adding post commands for the second, but I'm not adept in using that program yet, so it didn't work for me.
Maybe someone can help me out?

Thanks in advance
Zap

EDIT: finally i was able to find an answer for the second question: I edited each VTS_XX_0.IFO (with IfoEdit) and replaced the existing Post Command by "CallSS_FP" (JumpSS_FP won't do it). Not the best way, I know, because it doesn't work, when you have submenus.
But I still can't find a way to add my own chapters...

Since you're doing this for your company, I must warn you that MyDVD is not suitable at all for any serious and/or professional purpose. By using it, you're not only wasting your time but also diminish the professional image of your company when it comes to presenting such DVD.

While IfoEdit is a great program, it might not suit you in this case for the purpose of setting the chapter points because it cannot keep the menus during re-authoring. Although it's possible to merge the re-authored material with the original menus, it will probably seem too complicated for you at the point and either way will be a waste of time.

Unfortunately, you'll have to explain to the person in charge that MyDVD (which probably came with the drive) doesn't suit your needs and you have to spend some money on an authoring program. The one that should do the job for you is TMPGEnc DVD Author (http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda.html), which can take care of the chapters and menus with minimum effort. It's only US$68 with 30-day free trial, and it has a lot of capabilities for the price such as motion menus. It will also solve your second problem since it has an option to return to the main menu after each clip.

Also, check out this link (http://www.dvd-replica.com/DVD/vmcommands.php) for info about DVD structure and scripting. Among other stuff, you'll find out why you had to use CallSS_FP instead of JumpSS_FP.

Thank you for your reply.
You're right, MyDVD came with the DVD Recorder (Sony DRU 510). At home i'm using DVDLab, so i know what i'm missing :)
The problem is:
1. My boss is afraid of "publishing" credit card data. but credit card payment is the only sensible way, because paying by bank transfer (safe) would cost $40 more (bank fee, etc).
2. for our bookkeeping, we need a complete invoice, including VAT and other information. i just don't know, if mediachance (or pegasys-inc) will provide us such an invoice, my emails are still unanswered.
But I'll try to do some more research and find a way to convince him.
