New Copy Protection on DVD?

Well I must admit that I´ve got something strange here on the DVD of "The Missing" RC2 PAL DVD (Germany)... It seems so that the third cell (VobId/CellId) 1/3 of the Main Movie is corrupt or has bad sectors... If you want to read an image of the disc, DVD Decrypter hangs... DVD Shrink also gives up with CRC Error.. CloneDVD also stopps... Now I changed to IFO Mode selected the Main Movie and disabled the third Cell... Now I can read the whole movie onto hdd... Can anyone confirm this?

The Structure of the Main Movie looks like the following :

VobId / CellID Length
01 01 00:00 (contains Cell Command jump to cell 5, [button 0]
01 02 00:00 (Dual Layer Break)
01 03 00:00 (Dual Layer Break) DVD Decrypter shows: 32MB of Size
01 04 00:00 (Dual Layer Break)
01 05 <- First Cell of Main Movie
02 01 <- Main Movie
xx xx
02 34 (if I remember right)

If you want to rip the main movie only (by disabling cell 3) and want to encode it the Chapter´s Index doesn´t match the Real chapter of the Original DVD...

VTS_14_1.VOB also seems to have something special on it Massive "Pack Header not Found" Errors throughout the whole file... Something new is defintiv here!
Anyone knows something about that???

02 34 (if I remember right) Obviously, VobId/CellID 1/3 is not a part of the actual movie but rather meant to be a warning screen or other still image. From the information you provided, it looks like you won't miss anything if you skip this cell. If it's indeed set up as a chapter of the main movie, you can always insert an extra chapter afterwards by duplicating the first or second chapter in IfoEdit, table PTT_SRPTI.

That cell might have been purposely made defective for copy protection since the apparently it's never played back due to a jump command in the first cell. To verify this, try selecting manually the chapter with the cell in question and see what happens.

Yes, newest decrypter version.

these first cells don´t contain anything. Cell 3 ist just corrupt. But I already found a way to read out the dvd, by skipping these cells. The only thing is that the numbers of the chapters won´t fit the original jumppoints of the dvd. But DVDRebuilder did a terrific job on this one ;)

I can confirm this "anomaly" on "The Missing (R2)".

I wonder if ticking "ignore read errors" in DVD Decrypter would be a solution?
How does this option work?
Simply skipping the offending sector or is it replaced with a dummy sector in the image file produced?
