View Full Version : AVI > SVCD staggered video frame rate problem

When using DVD2SVCD to convert avi's to SVCD occasionally on some conversions the mpeg result has a staggered video output. The audio is perfect and in sync, but the video looks like it's running at 10fps not 24fps. I am pretty sure it's because of the type of AVI creation. I have all the latest codecs and can play the AVI thru any media player ok. Has anyone had this error or have any ideas how to fix?
The source avi is normal frame rate.
On the DVD2SVCD Encoder tab:
I am using TMPGEnc Plus 2.5
Rate control mode is set to CBR (have experimented with all the others and they either error or just don't work.)
Motion Search Precision is at highest quaity (very slow)
VBV Buffer size 0
Field Order Automatic
The rest is all default settings
On the Frameserver tab:
I am using Bicubic resize
If you think you have the answer I would be most appreciative!

Sounds like a classic case of needing to use DirectShow.
See my post about editing avisynth.ini here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=79303)

Hey Nick,
I did as you suggested, into avisynth.ini replaced the line:
AVIReader=AVISource(!filename,audio=false)
with
AVIReader=DirectShowSource(!filename,^framerate,audio=false)
....and tried a re-encoding, but TMPGEnc PREVIEW came up with an error saying "EVALUATION: Unrecognised Exception" (undid my changes back to original line and it previewed ok)
Still stumped....you have any more ideas?

Two quick questions -
1. Which build of DVD2SVCD are you using and with which Avisynth version?
2. What happens if you try to play the file Avisynth_script_file.avs (in your movie output folder) using Windows Media Player?
Depending on your answers to these I may have some other thoughts :)

Nick,
1. Am using DVD2SVCD ver 1.2.2 build 1 with AVISynth 2.5
2. Media player said Avisynth_script_file.avs file extension was not recognised, but the player might still be able to play it. I clicked "YES play the file" and it played it no probs but again the frame rate was staggered as before.
Anymore ideas?
Cheers

Hello guys,
I've got the same problem as Blizz (staggered video).
Nick: The replacement that you suggested, don't helped me. The output video is now different, but not ok (now it looks like epileptic show ;) - it plays the next frame, then it skipped to the frame before - something likes "there and back" video... (sorry for my english, I'm not native english speaker :( )
I don't know what to do...
Thanks for any help...
