Has anyone with access to Sonic Scenarist been able to try authoring and burning a dual layer DVD with the NEC 2510A Dual Layer 8X DVD Burner? Specifically version 2.7?

I don't even have a dual layer burner, but considering when Scenarist 2.7 has been released (ages before dual layer burners) your chances of burning a dual layer DVD are slim to none.

As the DVD+R DL writing command set is incompatible to DVD+R, the chances are not only slim to none, but exactly none...

Why would you even need to author anything that you plan to put on a dual layer anyway?

I kinda thought the probability that this would work would be slim, but so far, as I've upgraded DVD burners over the years, Scenarist was the only program that could work with all the DVD burners. I think they have some sort of high level universal command driver that lets the burner itself deal with the specifics.

All my other programs, such as Prassi, need to be upgraded every time I buy a new DVD burner, probably because they rely too much on system-level commands in their code.

So I thought that perhaps Scenarist might be able to communicate with the DL burner on a high level and let the burner translate the instructions.

Failing that, I see no way to author a dual layer disk with Scenarist, without use a DLT tape drive. And then there's the question of how do you get the image from the DLT to the DL burner?

Is there a way to author DL in Scenarist and put the image files directly on hard drive without the error to the effect that the image is too big to fit on DVD?

So I thought that perhaps Scenarist might be able to communicate with the DL burner on a high level and let the burner translate the instructions.Of course. This is called 'MMC'...and if you make anyone teach Scenarist the command set for DVD+R DL writing, it will handle it.
