View Full Version : Convert AVI to DVD and add forced subs?

Simple question, with a hopefully simple answer that I can't find in any other threads.

I have an XViD encoded AVI file and idx/sub files for the movie. I use DVD2SVCD and CCE 2.5 to convert AVI to MPEG-2 for DVD authoring on a regular basis, but this time I want to permanently add subtitles to the resulting MPEG.

The subs only appear for a short time during the movie, so adding them in the DVD authoring isn't necessary (plus I use DVD-Lab so it's not possible!).

Is there a simple way to do it?

Thanks in advance.

have a look at this...

...I'm pretty sure it will help you out.

I went through the trouble of frameserving from VirtualDub using the TextSub plugin before realising that I could have done it all with DVD2SVCD. Oh well, we live and learn :-)

Thanks for that WH. The only thing is, the guide says it's for selectable subtitles, whereas I want permanent (hardcoded) ones in the MPEG stream.

In your experience does this method hardcode or add selectable subs?

For hardcoded, is it just a case of checking the "Forced Subs" box?

Thanks again.

Just select Permanent Subtitles in the Subltitles tab.
That should hard-encode the external subs stream into the output mpeg.
