Hello,
This a post to refer some aspects of what XviD has improved in a good way.
The begining:
I was searching for a codec which could run a program (made in Delphi) in a 24x7 x 365.25 days a year. It seemed like a easy job to accomplish, but the problems had just started..
So, I tried DivX 3.11 Alpha, it ran very fast and without freezing at the begining of the clip, and the most important thing ... it didn't leek memory!
But, I had a problem.. Delphi was crashing with TMediaPlayer of the termination of the program. With some tweaking I found way to run them + - but the problem was still there and from time to time, it complety locked the application.
Tried DivX 4 and DivX 5 but the memory loss was huge!! 200 MB of RAM wasted every day!
So I tried, XviD-1.0-RC4-05042004.exe -- 579 KB (593.241 bytes) but it was acting the same way DivX 4 and 5, freezing and leaking a lot of memory!
After a long time, I tried XviD-1.0.1-05062004.exe (Keopi's version) -- 617 KB (631.955 bytes), it didn't freeze a bit, didn't leak a bit of memory, and the Delphi application ran properly, smooth as the DivX 3.11 Alpha and really flawless! (Testing time, 4 days running 2 movies at the same time with a playlist of 4 AVI files XviD encoded with 18 frames each (consuming 40% processor average, which is a very good result considering the weight of reading AVI headers and decoding them, almost 4x times per second)).
I couldn't believe, all problems solved .. :)
End notes :
I am still testing the program.. and seems everything to go OK.
Thank you. OpenSource forever :D
